The Usher Building at Edinburgh BioQuarter is nearing completion, marking a significant step toward our move in early 2024. Great new spaces within the building will offer staff and students opportunities for focused work and collaboration - with the whole of the ground floor open for the wider community to engage, learn and innovate together.

The building was featured as a case study commissioned by the Scottish Government exploring innovative new buildings moving away from fossil fuel heat sources - our building has air source heat pumps and as such has zero direct emissions heating, with no gas supply to the building.

This year has seen a number of events where staff and students have been engaged in the lead-up to the big move. In February, we held a furniture showcase, sampling various items of furniture for the new building from potential vendors. A staff forum was held in March to discuss innovative new ways of working for our neighbourhood spaces. In October, our café was christened with a name, chosen through a spirited competition. Finally, anticipation builds as we plan a site visit for those attending this month's End of Year Forum.
