Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Study from Biomarker development to Screening Program: what have we learned to advance cancer research in Indonesia? A colleague from Indonesia, Dr Jajah Fachiroh, is giving a talk titled "Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Study from Biomarker development to Screening Program: what have we learned to advance cancer research in Indonesia?" Bio: Jajah Fachiroh is a senior scientist at the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta-Indonesia. Her scientific interest lies in translational and molecular epidemiology with the focus on Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Together with collaborators she was involved in the development of EBV-based biomarkers, including of ease-to use kits, such as dipstick and ELISA kit, which have been translated into clinical and population use. Further, she is working together with cancer registry team at the regional hospital on molecular epidemiology of lung cancer survival in Indonesia Dr Fachiroh is a coordinator for Biobank development team at Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta-Indonesia. Biobank works in coordination with two academic hospitals, and an Indonesian population-based cohort. She is also a coordinator for Indonesian Biobank Network of 8 institutions, in collaboration with WHO-IARC/ BCnet-France and UMC Groningen-Netherlands. Research on developing of biobank system, policy of data sharing, and multidisciplinary approaches (basic science, bioinformatics, ethics, public health, etc) therefore becomes part of her interests. In her talk she will focus on nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPS) risk and prognosis in Indonesia and the use of EBV based biomarkers for screening. She will start from development of EBV biomarkers followed with their application in clinical and population settings in Indonesia. She will also present briefly local research facilities and settings at the Universitas Gadjah Mada Yogyakarta-Indonesia and discuss challenges of research in Indonesia. Feb 12 2019 11.00 - 12.00 Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Study from Biomarker development to Screening Program: what have we learned to advance cancer research in Indonesia? Joint Cancer and Molecular Epidemiology group meeting. Room 425, 1st Floor, Anatomy Lecture Theatre, Old Medical School, Doorway 3, Teviot Place
